Leaking STROMBERG Fuel bowls

Hello fellow Series 3 Owners, I've just got my E-Type out of the garage after a 3 month storage. I've noticed that all 4 Carb fuel bowls are leaking fuel from underneath. I put storage fuel in the tank before storing it but baffled why now all 4 bowls are leaking from the nuts underneath. Has anyone else had a similar problem or know why this would happen. It certainly put an end to an early spring drive here in the UK!

Have you checked the one way valve in the return fuel line? It may be sticking and not allowing fuel past.

What exactly is "storage fuel"?

When you say they are "leaking from the nuts underneath", are you referring to the gaskets between the carburettor body and the float bowl or are you referring to the round plug on the underside of the float bowl? The former has a waxy paper gasket and the latter has a sealing rubber O-ring.

There ought not to be an excess of fuel in the float bowls above the level of the lower part of the carburettor as there is a valve inside the carburettor which shuts off when the carburettor float inside the float bowl rises as the float bowl fills.

Hi Marek,

Thanks for the reply. The fuel is leaking from the round plug that sits underneath the float bowl. More concerning is that all four bowls are leaking from the same place. The car was stored for 3 months whilst I was away. I put storage fuel in the car which does not have any ethanol in it which is supposedly better for the rubber components and fuel lines. Am I able to remove the fuel bowls in situ rather than remove all of the Carbs?

Problem now solved. New O rings fitted at the base of the fuel bowls.
