Good afternoon,
I just bought my first Jaguar E Type and will collect next Thursday in France and will drive back same day. The car should be in good condition and never had a problem in the past.
VIN number UD1S74864
So LHD, US import and manual although no longer 4 speed but 5 speed.
Loads of money spent in the last years and the car had been driven. 20,000 miles in the last 10 years.
The car is dark blue with red interior. I know the interior has had a change of colour but can’t track the original external colour. Anyone can help?
Link to the auction https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/ ... s-3-nVbw2n
As per photos will remove the Retrotrip (previous owner participated to several historic rallies in France – I do not mind, good that the car had been driven and maintained rather than a garage queen) fit a new stereo and purchase 2 new AC vents which are missing. And naturally and full service.
Very honestly I do not have experience with these cars but own other classics mainly Porsche.
Any thoughts on the original colour and/or comment on the car?
Love this Forum btw
Thanks
Filippo

Roger Los, who is semi-active on Jag-Lovers, has (for yearssss) maintained a database (XKEData.com) in an effort to track down every E-Type. His database has captured 35-40% of them, depending on which submodel, LHD/RHD, etc you look at.
One of them is yours:
https://xkedata.com/cars/detail/?car=UD1S74864
a quick scan of his input looks to been mostly info from the auction site from which you purchased the Jag

interesting. I checked the VIN on that platform last week but was not there. I guess it just has been uploaded.
In any case would be great to receive some comments or suggestions from you guys that have all the experience on these cars.
I assume will need to ask for a Heritage certificate from Jaguar to have the original spec. Based on the VIN the car was manual correct?
thanks
Filippo

You asked: "Based on the VIN the car was manual correct?"
A: Yes. An E-Type equipped with an automatic transmission (Borg Warner) would have a "BW" suffix in the VIN.
The small box on the firewall beside the wiper motor is not stock. It looks to be some sort of auxiliary fuse box??
The engine bay looks stock (aside from the above) looks stock.
Your motor mounts appear to be in good condition. A quick and simple check is to look at the stock air filter housing. The "horn" is attached to the engine frame; the air filter housing itself is bolted to the engine. If/When the motor mounts start to sag/age, it may show up on the alignment if the two parts of the air filter housing.

Hi Filippo - welcome to the world of Series 3's and I hope you get much enjoyment from the car.
You may want to get the Heritage Certificate for the car from Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.
The Certificate will include the following:
1. Model
2. Date of manufacture
3. Body style (eg 2+2 LHD)
4. Chassis Number
5. Engine Number
6. Gearbox Number
7. Body Number
8. Transmission (Manual or Auto)
9. Exterior Colour
10. Trim Colour
11. Original Dealer
12. Date of despatch
13. Registration Number
There's a fee for this but imo well worth having.
Hope that helps
Best
Chris
