Nope. That's manifold vacuum at one end, going into an air temperature sensor and ending at a set of bellows on the air cleaner scoop. Those vacuum hoses are only there because the air sensor is inside the air filter box.

You want to take a feed from the grommet on the front of the air cleaner box cover, in between the four 5/16" bolts that hold it to main air filter box.

OK, I'm slowly homing in on this! Now that I have the "where" resolved the "how" raises its head. Is there a specific fitting (XJS perhaps) that allows a feed from the grommet or do I need to jury-rig this myself?

No I stripped it, cleaned it and rebuilt it.

This was the one I machined for the sealed bearing.
