Can this be removed if car is jacked up as I have a dodgy back or do I bite the bullet and get a garage to fit a new servo and master cylinder if so anyone have any idea about times from start to finish
Have to watch the pennies as wife is moaning about car again

Hi,

The servo unit actually comes out in a forward direction towards the top so there is no requirement to jack the car up however if the front wheel is removed it would definitely be easier.

If you have a bad back probably the most challenging issue will be all the work is low down & you will probably struggle to remove the lower splash guard (below the servo, bolts on the inner engine frame) & the splash guard behind the wheel.

You will need to remove the washer bottle, remote brake fluid reservoir, bias valve & the vacuum tank then with some very careful manoeuvring it should come out.

Good luck, it is absolutely achievable but not a very easy or pleasant job.

Looks like a busy day when new servo and master cyinder arrive. Might as well renew all the pipes at dame time and tidy up

Fitted the servo unit yesterday and as you said not a pleasant job the splash guard is a pig with the limited access and getting the old servo out from the web of the limited space was interesting to say the least as was getting the new one in, stone chipped it beforehand and now looks quite nice. Just the air reservoir to replace with new fluid bottle, wish I had taken photo of vacuum lines first before removing them as now not sure which line from the vac tank attaches to the two lines running down the fire wall top or bottom, will have to look on diagrams to get it right. I paid for a genuine replacement unit at a cost of £240 and received a replacement part non genuine, a little miffed but looks the same and hopefully works.

ok cannot find any diagram so can someone tell me
1. one the firewall side (back) of servo there is a vacuum connection where does this go
2. on the vacuum tank there are two connections for vacuum lines one goes to the pipe on the outboard side no problems where does the other one go
3 vacuum connector on front (master cylinder side) where does this go
seems long winded just need to know where each vac line goes
