The sill seal (BD28447/1) that fits under the chrome sill finisher (BD19129/1) and seals the gap between the door and sill has partially come out of the sill finisher on my car and won't push back in.

Has anybody taken the sill finishers off their car? The parts catalogue shows a clip (BD16794 - 18/car) but it isn't clear where it goes or if it has anything to do with the sill.

There's no obvious way to remove the sill finisher so I'm consulting the collective wisdom before I have a go at it with a trim lever and risk damaging something...

To remove the finisher lift it and rotate it at the same time along its length. When at the left hand B-post and looking towards the front of the car, the left hand door seal finisher will want to be rotated counter clockwise whilst lifting it in order to free it along its top edge. It will then fall away along its bottom edge.

The clips attach to the vinyl and need to be pushed home completely. They also assume a certain thickness for the vinyl. which if exceeded makes it impossible to secure the finisher to the sill. The finisher, once hooked onto the underside of the clips along its length, can be pushed towards the centre of the car and in doing so, will rotate slightly as it finds the locating tangs to snap down on the top of the clips.

Other than the fact that it may foul the closing of the door, the finisher should not affect whether you can fit the seal or not. To achieve a perfect door fit, you may want to shave the inner facr of the seal so it presents a slimmer profile over the finisher and thus prevents the combination from being too thick to allow a good door fit.

A perfectly fitted out door will close under its own weight if you hold it from a distance of less than six inches from the body of car and simply let go of it.

I used copydex. It is weaker than the rubber and the paint, so when something gives it's the glue and not the seal or paint.

Sorted... I got the trim piece off, then pulled the rubber seal out of its track in the sill. Nobody sells copydex anymore it seems so I used evostik and all OK now.
