Hello everyone,
Well, my car has now finally arrived and I am delighted with it - it looks fantastic, sounds great and goes well, but...
On tickover, the oil pressure seems awfully low - at around 10 ibs. When driving, it's back up to the mid 40's, so should I be concerned or is that low pressure normal on tickover?
Answers on a postcard please!

I'm not very knowledgeable on the 12 cylinder cars, but on the 6 cylinder cars the electric oil pressure gauges and more particularly the senders are notorious for being unreliable . If it goes up to 40 lbs and stays there when hot , there is probably not a lot to worry about. The best thing to do if you have any real doubts is to have the pressures checked when hot with a mechanical gauge . On the 6 cylinder cars this is very easy to do

I've seen the related threads on the forum and the most likely culprit is the sender. I'm getting the car serviced by a specialist in the coming weeks, so will get it checked out, but thank you for your prompt reply.
Apart from the (seemingly) low oil pressure, the car is a revelation, though the exhaust is far too quiet and I have plans to remedy that...

Hi Lee, I wouldn't worry too much about those oil pressure readings. I had an XJ-S with about the same pressure. What is the pressure from a cold start up? I bet higher than 40lb.
On the old XK engine the the oil pressure is oftain used to determine the condition of the engine, this is not really the same for the V12. The V12 engine holds lots of oil and this oil is pumped around the engine in a higher capacity and with high capacity you can effectivly reduce pressure like taking your finger off the a flowing hosepipe. So the pressure reading you have would not concern me.
If not the sender the oil pump itself could be getting a bit lazy but these things run for ever so don't worry. You could end up spending a lot of money looking into things and be no better off.
