Has anyone got these wheels on a S3 Roadster.
And if so can you recommend which tyres are best

Yes....I have the newer tubeless Dayton's on my 1973 roadster.. I have been using Goodyear Advantage 215 /70/15 for years with no problems.. Good grip, wet or dry, long lasting, and great ride , with little road noise.

Yep, very nice JC. Looks short for an S3, must be the background. And tubeless on wire wheels is clever tech.
I wonder why wire wheels with larger diameters are not commonly available (instead of special order)? Imo a worthwhile upgrade. I have seen some with 16 inch wheels off older XK’s, but these have a lot less than 72 spokes, i.e. not as strong/stiff?
I’m assuming that, to fit on our 6 inch rims and within our wheel wells, without any hassle whatsoever, the tyre width shouldn’t be more than 215 mm. Also that the tyre diameter shouldn’t be more than the diameter of a 215/70R15 (= 682 mm) or less than the diameter of a 205/70R15 (= 668 mm).
(Tyre diameter mm) = (tyre width mm) x (tyre profile) / 100 x 2 + (wheel diameter inch) x 25.4
Also tyres need to be readily available. E.g. 205 mm wide tyres seem not available for bigger than 16 inch wheels …
With these constraints the options would seem to be:
15 inch wheels: 205/70 and 215/70
16 inch wheels: 205/65 (673 mm dia.)
17 inch wheels: 215/55 (668 mm dia.)
18 inch wheels: 215/50 (672 mm dia.)
There are some very nice tyres available for bigger wheels.
There are probably additional constraints on wheel size. Would be good to know what these were.

I guess its the weight, bigger steel rims too heavy?

While we are on wire wheels - what is the general consensus - Dayton or Dunlop (MWS) wheels? For me in Aust the price is very similar for either brand.

Neither company will sell to me direct because they have sellers here but these rip off merchants charge nearly double the overseas price (we call it the Australia tax) so is worthwhile me buying when on hols to either the UK or the US.

I can't comment on the MWS (Dunlop) wheels, but in 2012 I bought a set of Dayton tubeless wire wheels. Since then I have had 5 !! wheels replaced. 4 for leaking air and one for squeaking.
They were all replaced by SNG and I assume subsequently by Dayton.
At the moment I have 4 wheels that hold air and do not squeak.
Conclusion:
Questionable quality at some point, but seem to have sorted it with the replacements from later production runs.
Customer service as it should be or maybe a bit better. The squeaking wheel was replaced in 2018.

Re MWS I put a set of their stainless tubeless wires on my OTS. After two year spokes loosened on three out of four and they had to go back to MWS to be rebuilt at over £400 each. I'll never buy from them again, not at all impressed by their "customer service".

Here is a helpful tip for owners switching to tube-less Dayton's for the first time. Get hold of Fix-a-Flat in a can, and spray a little in each wheel, then take your baby for a ride. Leaves a nice seal inside the wheel.

Ok - thanks - negative reviews for both - maybe not a good plan.

There is an alternative to Dayton and MWS that isn't Borrani, and that is Turrino Wheels.

I have met them on several occasions and they always seem to be quality and customer focused. They are pricey, although not as expensive as Borrani, but the quality is superb.

I would like to have a set for my car but I already have my MWS stainless set.

I have no association with them and no direct experience of their wheels but they do look good and they are a possible alternative to the usuals.

That would certainly seal any leaking in the tire, but the leaks that I have experienced were all around the wires/spokes in the center/hub of the wheel and I don't think the "fix-a-flat" foam would have helped. The centrifugal force would have put it on the outer circumference.

Thanks for the tip. If I get a 5th leaking wheel, which I don't think Dayton or SNG will replace, I will certainly keep it min mind.

Can you write her in the forum, if the tire-flat foam has closed all leaks.
The leaks must be closed for a long time, when using the car.
