Hello, I am knew to this forum and have a question about my series 3 XKE 1973 roadster.I hope you can shed some light on my questions. While purchasing the rear transmission cups and spring and bushing for my manual 4 speed,I came across on SNG parts diagram a missing part that I assume I should have #C42202 rear engine mounting bracket as listed.I am second owner and this part is missing. Since the part is still available but special order, can some one give me more information on the part? Does it mount to the transmission or does it fix to the spring mount? I asked SNG for more information but they did not know. Perhaps you have a shop manual that will show the part with its' installation? Best Regards Robert

Hi Robert and welcome to the forum,
The bracket C42202 was added from gearbox No 7S14001 (around Sept 73). I believe the intention was to reduce the amount of intrusion into the passenger compartment by the engine in a frontal impact.
Hope this helps,
Bob

Bob thanks for the information...My gearbox # is KL-4437. Will I need the bracket? Do you know or is there a picture in a shop manual? My car #UDIS22206. My engine #7S-9385 LA. I hope this can tell me if I need to proceed and purchase and install the bracket. If so I will try to find a good shop manual that will show how it mounts to the undercarriage. Thanks again for any help. Best Regards Robert

Hi Robert,
Sorry, that should have read from engine number 7S14001 not gearbox number. You really need the Jaguar Parts and Service Manuals although the only illustration I know of is in the Parts Manual shown under Engine Mountings Rear. (It's in the Forum Knowledge Base)

Although for an auto you may also find this thread useful

Bob thanks again great information..I guess my engine is much earlier so I don't need the mount bracket? The suffix on mine LA confuses me. I am assuming that the break off nos. 14001 is much later than my 9385? Am i correct in assuming this? Best Regards Robert

As your engine number is 7S9385 it would not have had the bracket as this wasn't introduced until 7S14001. Series 3 engine numbers ran from 7S1001 to 7S17189 although 13543 to 14000 weren't used. Suffix letter L means Low Compression ratio (reduced from 9:1 to 7.8:1 for the North American market from Oct 72) and suffix A relates to the finished size of the cylinder bores (it could be A or B). The prefix UD to your Car Number 1S22206 denotes North American Model Year 1973 which started in Oct 72 with UD1S21029.
Hope this helps.
