I thought you'd like to see my car, now I've finally set up a photobucket album (with thanks to Heuer).

This is how it looked back in March, with just a 'few' little bits to complete...-

Thank you - I like the colour too - it's just about on the right side of 70's kitsch.

It's currently on Vredestein 205 75's - they're a modern tyre, but don't look too out of character with the car (I think).

I will change them eventually for something more period correct.

Whilst the car looks nice, but has just had both inner and outer rear arches replaced as they were absolutely full of filler. The good news is that the sill structure and front end are completely solid and original, so it least we've eradicated all the rot in one go.

It's currently being painted and will be back home next week...

Well, the car came back from Alan Proctor yesterday and unsurprisingly, I am utterly delighted with it.

The drive home was a revelation - the car sounding phenomenal at any speed. I particularly like the burbling on the overrun and any enclosed space makes me feel like I'm in the opening sequence of the Italian Job, aided in no small part by Matt Munro on the 8 track - On Days Like These indeed!

I'll post some photo's when my wife has recovered from seeing the bill, but in the meantime, this was taken from my Blackberry yesterday, so apologies for the poor resolution. The addition in the boot was not a factory option and note the pipes



I spent a couple of hours detailing the car in the garage this morning as the dawn broke, which is a magical time of day. As a child of the 70's, I still can't quite believe I own a car like this and such a good one to boot. Does anyone else still sneak into the garage at odd times of the night to look at their E Type, or is it just me?

It's 8am, so I think I can wake the neighbours now...

you're not alone...
My gardening items, pool filter/pump, car magazines ... are in the garage where the E is at rest, so I often go there... even in winter time

Yes i'm guilty of sneaking into the garage for another look , but the effect is multiplied if beer is in the equation :D

Pretty car and nice to see a rare colour for a change. I'm puzzled though - why does your signature say Series 2?

Just saw your posts and the car. Finally got my first S3 last April and it's the same colour as yours (Azure Blue). Personally I think the best colour available from the factory. Bought it LHD as an import from Arizona and I've just completed the RHD conversion for Australian roads. Mine has wires which I love but your chromed steel wheels look stunning. And yes I too can't believe I've finally got one and have on occasions strayed into the garage for no other reason than to check it out.

The obvious differences are the side lights, front overriders, and wipers parked on the left side. The side lights are the only items still remaining on the car today indicating it was originally sold in the US. They'll be gone soon too.
