#1 Fitting a 4 spd box with OD into an auto V12

Hello there

I hope you're all keeping well...

I'd appreciate any advice from anyone who has swapped the auto box for the jaguar 4speed with overdrive, please.

I've tried to read up on previous posts so I hope I don't ask old or daft questions :)

I'm pretty much ready to do the swap ( got the box and OD serviced/ uprated) etc.

From everything I've read the tunnel is the same, the prop shaft fits, the diff will be an ok ratio, the clutch pedal can be bought and fitted into the pedal box, speedo screws in... I've made a carrier to move the gear lever forward on the box but not got anything sorted inside the car yet...

Is it a case of exhaust off, propshaft undone and get the auto box out from underneath? Any issues with auto box pipes to radiator?

(I know, say it quickly makes it sound easy...)

Any advice, comments, thoughts etc will be very welcome, especially practical advice!

Thanks so much - just had a quick skim through your link and it looks like everything I need...

Probably going to tackle it next weekend (at least get the auto box out)

Btw forum looks good so far! I'll keep an eye out and contribute in my niche if anything relevant comes up!

Dear Simon,

Use a relay to take a fused supply from the brown wire at the left hand side of the console to power the overdrive solenoid.

I hadn't really considered the wiring side of it much till now but literally just bought a new 4th switch as that one looks past it's best.

Hi Simon,
here's a list of things you'll need and some for your consideration from one of my previous posts.

Here's a list of items to address that I made a while ago after doing my conversion:

Bell housing including clutch release arm and all bits.
Clutch master and slave cylinder
Hydraulic hose or original connection from master to slave.
Flywheel (I chose a Fidanza)
Flywheel bolts (longer than the flexplate bolts)
Complete clutch including release bearing and bolts
A clutch pedal (make sure you check distances between pedals before final installation. I have pictures)
Modify auto brake pedal (from wide auto brake pedal to narrow version)
Brake and clutch pedal rubbers
Gear box cover from and E-type or modified to place gear stick in original position.
Gearbox tunnel cover for manual gearbox (Fiber version from SNG)
Interior transmission tunnel center console
Overdrive electrical control system (a simple switch or an electronic fool proof system)

A couple of things to consider:
If no proof of recent rebuild of gearbox and overdrive, have it done.
Have your prop shaft balanced
You are most likely to catch the virus "while I'm in here, I might as well do ......."

Thanks for your very helpful list - I've got some of those items covered off ok, some I kicked a little way down the road as a problem for future Simon and the rest I'm getting on with!

I've had the box and OD serviced and have assembled all the bits to physically fit it but I'm still short of the clutch pedal, master cylinder etc.

The biggest thing I still have to do I guess is modify the tunnel cover for a manual - I've got some photos of a manual cover so I guess I'll try to recreate it from that (unless anybody knows of one needing a new home?)

I got the auto box out today and was amazed how good the car is underneath. It's not the tidiest car but it's actually in great condition (it turns out! 😂). I need to find out more about it's history.

I'm going have a bit of a clean up inside the tunnel and check out the prop shaft like you suggested. I pulled it out and it looks pretty new but who knows...

Anyway thanks for the help and I'll post a couple of photo of the manual box etc going in.
