Which would be the best way of moving the seats back a couple of inches?Re mount the subframes further back?Extend the seat runners?I would assume this has been done before.

Firstly you'd have to see how far forward your seat goes, as this will show the two rear mounting bolts and how much further forward on the runner you can drill an additional two holes. These can be your new rear mounting positions for the runner. At the front, you now have to fabricate a couple of heavy duty plates to extend the front mounting studs to reach the old front mounting point on the bulkhead.

The steering wheel can be moved forward or backward to suit by adjustment via the knurled knob..

Any other method sees you either making a new set of runners under the current seat runners (with subsequent headroom problems?) or altering the welding mounting points in the car body.

The problem to solve is access to the bolts that the current seat runners attach to.

If I could get an old seat subframe,I could weld extensions to the front of the seat runners,no loss of headroom.

With just some extension plates on the front, I don't think you'd lose headroom, as that forces the seat to slightly tip back. If you attach those plates (suitably angled) to the underside of the front captive nuts, you can keep exactly the same headroom as before.

You'd lose headroom if you were to have a complete runner under the old runner, but that's not what I am suggesting.

Hi ive fitted mx5 seats on fosway runners that allows the seats to move back about 2in extra plus the mx5 seats are rounded at the top missing the hood mechanism when the top is down and the seats are fully back if u try to fit standard seats further back they will hit the roof mechanism and tear the leather i got a pair of mx5 seats re trimmed in black leather from a mx5 specialist in derby at a very good price and quite easy to fit and they look at home in the etype
