Rear Number Plate Panel Finisher

I have now had my car for nearly 40 years. One of the aspects I have never understood why the designers did it - is why the cutouts on the bottom of the stainless number plate panel finisher on the rear of the series 3.

Can someone please explain?

Hi Garry,
The slots allow for the mounting brackets for UK position number plates. ie below the reversing lights.

Oh Ok - now I understand and also understand why I did not understand

Mine is an ex Uk car and I drove it around in the UK for well over a year - my plate was mounted much higher than yours - centred on the panel so the cutouts aways were visible (and annoying). My number AOX6K was shorter than yours and not obscured by the reversing lights.

Apply this stuff once or twice per year. Takes me about an hour to treat about 60-70 sq meters. It takes a week or see to see the results but really effective.

Glypho is our go to. Although we don't mind a bit of greenery. Plus it helps to camouflage the leaked oil ...

Yes, I do use that stuff via a 20ltr backpack, but, even though I live in the country, the muck that falls out of the sky is unbelievable, so I need to pressure wash virtually every year anyway, and its a big and dirty job.
But when it is finished it sets my S3 off perfectly ........
