I have just bought a Series III and considering buying this manual Jaguar E Type V12 Series 3 Workshop Manual by Brooklands Books Ltd (Paperback, 1990). Has anybody bought one of these and able to comment on content quality?

If it is the reprint of the factory manual, definitely yes!

Owned mine,and parts book,since 1978.
So well thumbed. Highly recommended. I even update the wiring diagram with changes I have made and write notes on the sections as I do them. It's a part of my car.

I think the Brooklands book is actually a reprint of the original. I have the original and also have an electronic copy. The electronic copy is great because I can view on my phone, pc, tablet etc. Very useful especially for the parts catalogue which usually comes with it as you can hunt for spares even if you haven’t got the actual book to hand. Also, your wife might not realise you are reading it in bed! Either way it’s essential to have if you intend to work on the car at all. Some original copies are ring bound, later versions are a proper book. I have both and both the OTS and 2+2 versions of the parts catalogue (original 2+2 parts catalogues are getting hard to find and expensive, but the OTS version has been reprinted.)

The other advantage includes the ability to print pages for use in the workshop/garage and not mind if it gets dirty. I actually printed a complete copy and put it into plastic sheet wallets which allow you to use it in dirty environments, although it had to go into two separate binders; the parts catalogue will fit in one if you do that.

Jaguar used to do one that you could copy, replicate and print easily from .PDF, but the current version is not so easy to copy, using a secure version of .PDF. You can print from it, but get a watermark on each page. Not sure if you can make it work on tablet/phone. It does cover all models and has lots of other information and interesting stuff, including brochures, service notes and updates among other things. The older versions had less information and were specific either to Series 1 & 2 or to Series 3 cars. I have all of them and the earlier versions are often on eBay etc.
