Series 3 XKE throttle cable stuck

Hi - I have not experienced a stuck thottle cable but I have replaced that cable a year or so ago on a just-in-case basis.
The nut (and washer) - page 25.55 of the parts catalogue - on the inside of the firewall should be clearly visible once any offending trim has been removed and the inner cable has been released from the crank which is activated by the throttle pedal. Don't recall that there was a problem to get a spanner onto the nut other than the usual dexterity required of Etype owners with reasonably few back problems (before ownership?). You'll possibly need someone to hold a spanner on the outer cable end on the engine side of the firewall/bulkhead (amongst the electrical wiring) whilst undoing the nut. As they typically say in the Repair Manual, fitting the replacement is just the reverse of the above - but a bit more difficult. When the cable has been removed from the capstan, best to check that the capstan return spring (no replacement spring available from the usual suppliers) is working OK. The spring tension can be increased as (on my car at least) there are two spring end retaining holes opposite each other in the top of the capstan and the spring end can (with some dexterity) be moved to the next hole position.
Pages 82 and 83 of the Manual are reasonably helpful and it's well worth checking the throttle linkage at the same time to ensure that nothing is sticking.

Hi before u go any further check the engine earth strap if its loose or not connecting good the engine may have earthed through the throttle cable causing it to get red hot and melt together just a thought
