I am thinking about buying the adjustable power steering kit from Rob Beere.
Who has experience with this kit: are there any disadvantages, is the installation complex?
Thanks and best regards
Holger

It looks to be no more than a needle valve and some Swagelock fittings. You could probably make it yourself for about a quarter of the price.

I might make one for the XJS.

Have you already done the Jaguar mod which involves a simple 50 thou washer in the pump. It’s a simple mod to do without removing the pump, the mod reduces the pressure, and makes the feel of the steering less sensitive and more in touch, especially when cornering.
I found that was all you need, and I drive a lot of very windy roads down here.

Thank you for your comments. I think the charm of the kit lies in the fact that the servo support can be regulated by the valve. Building the device is certainly not rocket science, but I would have to buy the necessary tools, which in my opinion would be more expensive than the kit.

Hi Holger, I tried the kit ... didn't like it and sold it on. Went for a new fast rack from Vicarage in the UK - much better feel ( weight ), only compromise a slightly bigger turning circle. As it's a modern rack, looking forward to long life with no leaks.

I firmed the steering assistance by leaving it alone and giving myself useful extra legroom.

I.e. I replaced the plastic 15” steering wheel with a 14” MotoLita E-type copy wheel and hornpush.

A smaller diameter steering wheel gives you less mechanical leverage.
Changing the pulley diameters gives you a little less flow and pressure.
Adding the washer drops the pop-off pressure.

I had the Bob Beere pressure valve fitted and frankly, only half solved the problem. It’s an improvement, but in the end I bit the bullet and fitted a new quick rack steering. SNGB sell one for about £1000 and is the same as the CMC system. It is based on a Ford Focus RS rack. The turn in is so much better and gone is that incessant feeling of S3 under steer. It also gives you much more feel and feedback. I have a smaller Nardi 14” wheel as fitted by Eagle. Looks lovely too!

Hi Colin
Yes there is a service bulletin.
I don’t have it at the moment, but I’ll be home early may and will have a search.
Someone did post on the site, perhaps they will do so again.
Cheers
