Today I fitted a new under bonnet scoop to my OTS. The one that came with the car was modified to avoid it touching the ground with the bonnet open - but this was due to the front suspension being too low.

As I was removing the original scoop, I came across these "openings" and after inspection came to the conclusion that they are MEANT to be there, to allow water that somehow finds its way into the bonnet to drain out.

Is this correct?

In these pics, the scoop has already been removed and show the middle section near the radiator.

No, that is not a natural feature in that area. The following pictures shows the sequence and layers from the Chin Scoop completely removed to installed. The last picture shows the old Chin Scoop removed.

Is that section between the two large holes perfectly flat or also a bit curved? Just wondering if water could STILL be lying there despite the large holes.

I had another look at those slots on my car, and its hard to imagine that someone somehow cut them into the panel. The amount of body filler there does not help.

Its all rather academic in my case anyway, as I don't wash my classics with the hose (only a moist chammy), and I live in a very dry area so rust is the least of my issues.

Its flat. The structural member shown exposed in the first picture is flat and the strip with the two holes shown in the various staged of installation is flat.

Over the years, I've replaced easily more than a hundred S3 Chin Scoops and I can assure you. the cut outs shown in your panel are not correct and the section rear of the chin scoop is flat.

I accept that they should not be there. Weird what people get up to.

Someone will most likely say exactly that of the way I mounted the replacement scoop...
