#1 Replacing under bonnet scoop - now easily replaceable.

Post by jagwit » Sun Mar 21, 2021 9:40 am

I did so on my OTS yesterday.

Some "clueless person" did not set the front suspension correctly, found that the scoop interfered with the ground when the bonnet was open and decided to fix this by modifying the scoop, bending the front lip upwards.

So yesterday, I replaced it. But....

I am one of "those" types I suppose. I decided that I was not going to attack each of the spot welds that holds the original in place. The same "Clueless person" that modified the scoop also seperated the scoop from the RH bonnet flange, so I only had to do the LH side. Realising that it was also spot welded to the entire rear length of the scoop, I decided to rather cut the scoop off along that stretch using a 115mm grinder with a 1mm cutting disc.

I did not see the need to have that scoop so seriously welded in, and thus fitted (6mm metric) rivnuts on the two bonnet flanges which now hold the scoop(that also hold bottom edge of the side cover plates).

Now the car has a lovely, correct shaped, scoop, and in the event that it somehow be damaged, will be easily replacable.
