#1 windscreen washer pump

Post by baganz.sven@web.de » Wed Mar 24, 2021 8:43 pm

Dear forum colleagues,

is it possible to source a new rubber gear for the washer pump?
Sounds perhaps ridiculous but I want to keep my old pump.
All aftermarket parts don‘t look like the original one.

Hi Sven,

I had this issue and bought a replacement pump from one of the usual suppliers, only to find not only that it didn't look right - plastic instead of metal body, but it didn't work - the internal design was not up to keeping the water in the pipe after the pump, before the jet. On a Series 3, that's a long piece of piping and a lot of water. I think there's a valve in the bottle outlet and although I had a new bottle, which helped, I also made a new valve flap from thin plastic sheet. Anyway, some research revealed the part number of Lucas WSB100, I still have the box and the original unit.

A quick Google search found this (don't be put off by the Australian internet address, it's in UK, also there were several other hits I didn't look at):

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lucas-WSB10 ... 2789908575

The sticker is slightly different from my original (shown below), but otherwise very much the same.

Regards,

Simon

I just found that there is also a Trico pump fitted to some cars, not sure if the Lucas one is actually original, but I think it was on some cars.
Anyway, I hope that was all helpful.

Simon.

Simon,
The little gray Trico pump is the OEM pump. S3 cars did not come with a Lucas washer pump. When the Trico pump became NLA the usual vendors replaced it with the Lucas unit. Lucas is not original.

Hi Dick,

Yes, I found that out shortly after posting that reply, which is why I said the Lucas pump might be original. Anyway, on discovery, I bought this:

Thanks for the reply and correction. Sorry if I misled anyone, the Lucas pump also pictured was fitted to my car and looked original. (The bracket is not the original).
