#1 Have my RADIUS ARMS shrunk at the powder coaters?

I spent the weekend refitting my IRS - it's taking a lot longer than I expected.
Fitting the hand brake clevis pin, what a PITA... another Jaguar Repair Operation Manual impossitask. I ended up dropping the IRS again to get my hands into the space.
Anyway, the job is not finished yet. Even with the car on the ground the radius arm cups are about 2cms short of the mountings on the body.
What next? What am I missing here?

You need to loosen the IRS cage mounting bolts to allow it to rotate towards the front of the car, use a trolley jack on the front of the irs cage to rotate it.
Use a podger stick to lever the arms onto the irs mounts using the thread hole. The taper means you avoid damaging the cup thread.
Without a decent tapered lever and a set of picks you just cannot assemble an E type!

You could try Undoing the lower shock absorbers to allow the hub to be jacked up right into the wheel arch, this shortens the distance between the IRS and the cup.

Hi Nigel.....to engage the cups i find it easy if you drop the car down on its wheels....handbrake on or chock the rear wheels.....rock/roll car rearwards........becaus the irs has movements on its mounts the radius arms will move forwards and engage in the cups.......Steve

Use an R-pin instead of a split pin next time.

Quite normal.
You need to use a jack to tilt the IRS forward to get the arms to engage in the cups.
Slather the cups with anti-seize to be nice to the next owner of your car.

Wow! In just a few minutes, really useful advice... I love this forum. Thanks guys.
Marek, fitting the split (Cotter) pin isn't the problem, it's lining up the holes in the HB compensator with the yoke on the end of the HB cable and at the same time dropping the clevis pin into the aligned holes. It's a three hand job in a two finger space... (Maybe I need a gynaecologist
).
I've got a lot on in the next few days so unlikely to get into the garage till the weekend, but I'll let you all know how I get on.

Nah! I think they shrunk. Must be that Russian Steel that Tony Benn Foisted on the Leyland.

Sorted!
After lowering the front wheels onto the ground the gap was a lot smaller.
Finally, I got the missus to rock the car back and forth against the handbrake while I pushed the cups into place. The expression on my wife's face during this exercise was scary, I got the impression she was quite enjoying the possibility that she might drive over my head...
