Not much to go on here, but a perennial problem area is the brake light switch itself located under/behind the pedal. It is a simple spring-loaded plunger switch that when pushed upon by the brake pedal, closes the circuits and illuminates the brake lamps.
The switch is made of white plastic and gets fragile with age. A search of Jag-Lovers will find 1 or 2 nearer-to-contemporary replacements from non-Jaguar models -- they screw right in and are adjustable.
