Ideas to reduce heat in car on Series 3 V12
#1 Ideas to reduce heat in car on Series 3 V12
Dear Forum members,
I'm looking for ideas to reduce the heat in the car when running the V12. It gets uncomfortable. I dont have an AC, will put additional floor insulation and consider a vent to the bulk head. Any other advice appreciated.
thanks
Graeme

Graeme, welcome to the forum, the best place for all things E Type.
You'll see some ideas below in suggested topics but a search of the forum will show you lots of ideas people have used, eg dynamat. Search works very well by simply putting in one word in the box (eg insulation or dynamat), then when the results come up you can refine then with the "search these results box".
Tell us more about your car, how long you have had it, photos are always welcome.
Good luck
Geoff

If you have a later v12, then the fresh air ventilation system fed from the picture frame can be beefed up with a couple of simple air scoops to redirect air from the air dams into the ducting.

THanks Geoff, had her on the road now for a month after a nut and bolt rebuild and really enjoying her. SHe is a 71' in willow green with a cinammon interior. I've done upgrades on the engine, add a stainless steel exhaust system and polybushed her all around, drives and handles great.... looking forward to many more miles.
Appreciate the guidance on the heat wrap.
Graeme

Do you still have the original heat shields - one up on the engine side of the firewall around the transmission tunnel and the second above the exhaust pipes/mufflers? Without these a lot of heat will enter the cabin.
I would consider the later footwell ventilation that was fitted to later series 3s.

Many thanks, I'm in the process of fitting a 5-speed manual box now, have put heat protection now in the tunnel, wrapped the exhausts, have put dynamat in the floor wells and will cover the bulk head and the gearbox / internal area and have installed the missing rams and piping to take the external airflow from the bonnet to the foot we ll! Hopefully will have her on the road this weekend and head to the Shelshley Walsh e60 meet in Worcestshire on Sunday...AussieEtype wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 8:23 amDo you still have the original heat shields - one up on the engine side of the firewall around the transmission tunnel and the second above the exhaust pipes/mufflers? So I take it that you do not have the original heatshields in place - I would put them in and also do the insulating you have indicated above.

Yes lots of heat with all shields in place. It comes in from the bulkhead. I am lucky enough to have a Webasto from new. Does the trick.

Hi if you are running the distributor with the vac retard that makes the engine run much hotter on the exhausts. When i fitted the vac advance it made a big difference to the temp in the cabin as the exhausts run much cooler

Yes on retard diaphragm(replaced many times) But it is only active at tickover I seem to remember,
Once you're rolling the advance bob weights kick in, certainly on my strobe markings that I've spent ages gaping into!.
