Hi guys . My series 3 has just began to stutter a little around 20k revs upwards. It’s also seems harder to start. Could it be because I have used 97 octane fuel for the first time ?

No. Perhaps fuel filter?

I'm impressed you can get it to "20k revs" in the first place.

Bro has an XJ12C pillarless coupe....essentially the same engine although injected...one of the plug connectors associated with ignition on top of the engine was making poor contact...similar symptoms until the wire fell off then all stop!..might be worth checking and cleaning all the connections around the opus/distributor etc...
