Would some kind member advise what size the front gap is between the underbonnet air duct and the underpan?

In looking at old photographs, I've seen quite a variation. This is possible because although it was welded along its rear edge, the holding brackets along the sides allow for that. Mine is quite slim looking at just over and inch and a half at the centre line, but I have seen substantially larger openings.

If you worry about overheating, then err on the side of making it bigger.
