When I return from driving my car it goes straight into the garage . However , for so time after there is a really strong smell of petrol fumes which carries into my house, as I have an integral garage. Is this normal ?

I would say no, not normal. Are your carbs and fuel lines completely dry? A non leaking fuel system will have no tell tale fuel stains at all. Weeping fuel line banjo seals, float bowl seals, fuel line junctions, or jet diaphragms can cause strong fuel smells. Also possible, but less likely to produce a strong smell is a tired fuel filler cap seal.

Did you ever chase down the cause of the strong petrol smell?
BTW, what is your name?

A friend of mine had a strong smell of petrol from the boot. All the visible pipes and connections were fine. Fuel tank out revealed 4 pipes between the petrol tank and expansion tank in the LH rear wing (only accessible with the main tank out) and at least one was rotten.

I know you posted a year ago, but would be interesting to know if you found a cause to your problem.
