#1 V12 Roadster KVT562K?

Post by Ash » Sat Jun 10, 2023 7:48 am

Hi all,

My family sold this car over 20 years ago diss assembled as a stalled restoration to a chap named Duncan in Castleford, West Yorkshire who owned a classic car restoration business. I presume it has since been restored. Searching the DVLA website there is no MOT history, and is SORN. Originally white the car is now red. A new Registration Document was issued towards the end of last year so it may of changed hands. JDC have the car listed from when my father owned it but nothing more recent.

I have some old photos and anecdotes I would be happy to share with the owner so if anyone knows the whereabouts of the car I would be grateful if they could please get in touch.

Many thanks

This is an easy fix, just send a letter to the DVLA with the reg. no. shown and ask for the registered keeper details, if you say that your car was damaged in a pub car park and a good person left a note on your windscreen with this reg. no. on it then they will provide you with the info. that you desire. Police will not be interested as it was on private land, job done.

I am not sure the DVLA would divulge this now due to GDPR Data protection laws?
Sounds well dodgy I see why you call yourself 'Jack the lad'

Yep DVLA wouldn't even supply info for my car to the soliciter son of the original owner, citing privacy laws.

Ash,

The DVLA are well aware of the Jack the Lad route to trying to obtain information which is subject to Data Protection. They will require details of all vehicles involved, the location and details of the incident, photos of the damage to your vehicle, a copy of the repair invoice or estimate and the crime reference number. They also have to be told why you are seeking the information and how you intend to use it.

In addition to having to concoct quite a detailed lie (with presumably forged supporting documents) you would also be committing a criminal offence and run the risk of a fine and a criminal record.

You are very right to be wary!

...and after the present owner complains about harassment to the police, the paper trail you've initiated points to a very easy criminal conviction under s.170 of the Data Protection Act 2018 in a Crown Court or Magistrates Court. It's all there in black and white in the paragraph next to the point on the v888 form where you have to sign your name. You get a criminal record, not the record of the car.

Job done indeed.

kind regards
Marek

Just so we are clear. I will not be embarking on any illegal endeavours to obtain details of the car.

If anyone knows the owner I will be very grateful they could please get in touch.
