#1 6.0L Engine in S3

Post by Woolfi » Mon Aug 23, 2010 6:32 pm

We have mounted the 6,0 liter motor from a 1993 limousine into my EV12 OTC together with the original Stromberg carburettors. Has anybody done this also ? How has he done the "vacuum steering" of the ignition ?
My car has a strong pinging when accelerating. I have mounted a simple rubber hose from the "tappered edge bore" at the Stromberg to the vaccum capsule. The 5,3er HE-Motor has a much more complex vacuum system. I will try to "copy" this. The original 6,0 motor has a complete electronic ignition, i can't use.
Has anybody solved this problem ?
Kind regards Wolfgang Gatza (Germany)

Easiest way will be to use an XJS HE system , very simple to fit and you dont need to be a Jaguar specialists to convert it over .

Since I put "high-grade" gas /Superplus in Germany with 98 octane) in the car and with another minor change in the vacuum system, the pinging has reduced a lot.
O sunday we had a sunny warm day and I have done a acceleration-contest with a 400 hp Maserati Quattroporte of a friend. We started with 50 mph and stopped at 100 mph. For my big surprise the Maserati was not quicker than my EV12. The car accelerated side by side and the Maserati was not able to pass my car. The wight of the Maserati is roundabout 1850 kg without driver. I calculated, that my EV12 with 6,0 L motor and 4 Strombergs must have roundabout 320 horsepower compared with the Maserati. I am happy, that the motor-conversion now is working well. Still there are some minor problems with the ignition, but I hope, that I will be able to solve them soon.
Kind regards Wolfgang Gatza
