#1 Oil leak

I am restoring a V12 and I did the engine a few years ago. I was slightly worried that the rear seal would dry out so I overfilled the engine with oil (15 litres) and tilted it at about 45 degrees.
After a few days I noticed a small drop of oil on one of the rear sump bolts, and after checking it would appear that this has dripped down from the rear main side seal. IIRC this is a small rubber seal that looks like an elongated 'L'
Am I asking too much of this seal ? will it improve with engine heat and when it in a vertical plane again? or should I be removing it and try again.
