#1 Rain shield orientation

This question gets aired from time to time . . . I thought the correct/usual way was with the bulk of the panel facing to the centreline of the car, as in the 2nd pic below, copied from a period brochure. But, the 1st pic (the red car) is a screenshot I just took from JLR's website advertising their reborn classic Jaguars and Land Rovers, showing the shields the other way round - might there be a sensible explanation for this?

The key is to avoid rubbing/scratching the underside of the bonnet.

Also to prevent the spark plug recesses filling up with rainwater (main purpose). For both these reasons the 2nd photo is correct. That JLR photo is incorrect.

No, but not a new mistake. This label was in use in the US in the early days of the V12.
In mid 1972 Jaguar changed the early 2 hole rainshield to a 4 hole type and added a forward supporting bracket. This meant that they were still interchangeable side to side but could not be inadvertently fitted facing outwards.
