#1 Gearbox / Trasmission am I missing something

Hi I have read all the gearbox threads around the series 3 2+2 and I can’t see if I am missing anything. I have the gearbox mount spring locating bolt etc but it looks like there should be something else in these threaded holes pictures attached.

I am assembling a stalled project so unfortunately I don’t strip so it’s a bit of a jigsaw and I realise it’s not the original engine and box as this had a V8 fitted in the US and some has done all the hard work stripped and repainted ISR fitted, I have removed engine and refitted correctly and has correct sump oil and water pumps and manifolds fitted now but there was no prop installed. I have now installed annd reinstalled engine and box but does the box just rest on that spring and not secured any other way? I am just concerned it will move around a lot?

Any help or advice really appreciated

I'm going to guess you are not using the central "stabilizer" mount on the firewall with your V8, and therefore I wouldn't use the E type rear spring mount, which wasn't designed to locate the gearbox (only to support it). I would recommend a generic gearbox mount such as seen below or something similar.

There is no "central stabiliser on the firewall" on a s3, so ignore that bit. Instead, purchase the 1974 Parts Manual, an A4 sizes half inch thick book of exploded diagrams showing all of the components of your car. You can then see how it was put together at the factory and easily identify missing parts and modifications.

kind regards
Marek

Hmm...I missed the car series for sure. Did I also misunderstand which engine/gearbox you have in your car? Your post reads to me as if you still have the V8 installed so figured it would require a non standard rear mount. Have you fitted another V12 in place? If so, Marek is spot on to follow the parts book for guidance.

Hi Guys

Thanks so much for the comments and replies yes there is a jaguar engine installed now with auto box.

I will get hold of a 74 parts manual so I will be using the Jaguar central spring loaded mount I just can’t see what those two threaded holes are for and if there is anything else should be up there. Just seems a lot supported by a spring for left and right up and down motion.

I am and experienced home mechanic and classic car enthusiast but this is my first etype I have worked on and because I didn’t strip it’s a bit of a jigsaw thanks again for the advice

This is the Parts Catalogue I have (for the OTS) - RTC 9014
The Parts Catalogue for the 2+2 is RTC 9015
Both contain the exact same data - just in a slightly different order of pages / sections

This page shows the parts you are seeking shows how detailed it is

Note that some of the hardware have an atypical numbering system. You'll need this to decode those particular numbers
Hmmm - apparently I can not attach a PDF on this forum. Contact me thru this forum and I'll send you the fastener decoder OPDF

The Parts Catalogue will be valuable resource for you. Nearly all the part's vendors use Jaguar's part numbers to label their inventory
