#1 How to remove rear badges?
There is a lot of dirt around my rear badges and I would like to remove them in order to properly clean and polish the area. How do I do that? Thanks in advance.

You lever them off....they have tangs that press into small plastic plugs....but you risk damaging them or the paint....use a bristle brush with a bit of polish on to clean....Steve

You wedge a barrier layer of paper between them and the paintwork and then you rotate and lever off the tangs from the underside of the bonnet. If you want to be ultra cautious, Dremel the tangs off from the inside and refit new ones or refit tight fitting bits of rubber hose in their place.

So it will be easier if I can get access to the underside of the boot lid to access the pins/tangs? And there is no adhesive or tape holding it?
I think I might try cleaning with bristle brush and polish first and see how it goes first then, thanks for the suggestion.

Take/lift the door card off the inside of the door to expose the pins and the ferrules that slide over the pins, then lightly grip the ferrules with pliers and slide them off the pins. I don't mean to be picky but calling the pins or ferrules tangs can be misleading and unless you understand what your dealing with, using a dremel on the ferrule could result in scrapping the badge if you cut through the pin.
The ferrules are BD25659# according to Robeys and they call them a friction bush.
I recently refitted my badges and thought the ferrules pushed into the skin like they did on early Range Rovers but soon realised they just slipped on the pins from behind.
I'm not sure if the position of the badges is the same for S3 as it is for S2 if it is then the lower badge pins may be hidden from view. The 4.2 badge on my S2 is behind the inner framework.
I brushed wax around them on the inside of the door after fitting just to prevent any water ingress.

Thanks for the pic from behind and the part number. It makes much more sense to me now.
Is this part held by friction and I just need to slowly turn and pull it off if I have access from the back? And is it reusable?

Yes its simply friction and yes just slide them off from the back and yes they can be reused if you don't break them or lose them.

Just to add that the S3 PM shows 3off BD25659 each for attaching "Jaguar"and "E Type" and 3off BD25644 for "V12". Jaguar called both "Friction Bush, securing emblem". They are shown fitted with the top hat on the outside of the panel. Some of the top hats are just visible in the second image below. Badges appear to be relieved on the rear to allow the top hats to fit in the recesses.



The same fixings were used on the OTS and can be seen on several low mileage cars such as the one below with the badge pins protruding slightly through the black BD25659 bushes.

Hello Bryan,
The configuration of the Friction Bush is as Bod states, with them being assembled with the panel from the outside. With regards to removing the badges, I work on a lot of various Series E Types and find that a better method to getting something between the badge and the painted surface of the Boot Lid or the Hatch Door, is to use a pin punch from the inside of the panel and hit directly on the exposed end of the pins that protrude through the Friction Bush. You alternate through the full complement of pins to evenly drive the badge free of the Friction Bushes, or to initially start to get the pins moving within the Friction Bush and far enough away from the paint surface to be able to pass masking tape through the gap so as to protect the paint from any lever you may use. There is less chance of breaking the pins through the compressive force exerted by drifting with a pin punch, than the tensile force when trying to lever the part out and far less chance of marking the paint.
