#1 Kick down switch ( again)

Ok fellas, hope you all had a jolly good VE Day, now I’m going to ask this question, and I expect to get shot down in flames 
But here goes
The little micro switch on the pedestal controlling the kick down….
Should it be closed or open during “non kick down “ situations… I’ve looked at the wiring diagram’s, but I’m non the wiser
