Hi Guys
I am looking for some information regarding glass in my S3 V12 2+2 1973
The car is about 250 from the end of the final production run and was built in June 1973 - last one built was about August 1973
I have owned the car since 1977 so in theory it would have been original.
I have an original Pilkington Triplex Sundym Heated Rear Window Glass - The windscreen is now a Pilkington Triplex Sundym which was installed recently
The puzzling bit is the rest of the glass (ie) 2 x Rear Quarters - 2 Door Windows are all SICURSIV ClimmaGlass -
I see that Sicursiv were also fitted to the MGBs and Minis after 1973 having previously used Triplex

This is more of a bit of history lesson for the forum rather than any issues with the glass as It maybe that all the 2+2 cars produced around June 1973 were fitted with the Sicursiv glass. To be honest I had never took much notice until my recent restoration where it was picked up.

So I wondered if anybody has information or indeed their car has the same Sicursiv glass

No response from anybody regarding the Sicursiv glass but there was an Iconic auction at Silverstone 25th July 2026 for the BRDC Classic 2026 collectors cars. In particular was the Anthony Hamilton's collection (Lewis Hamiltons Dad ) which features several Jaguars which may be of interest to members.

In the video amongst others is a 1973 (Registered Aug 73)- M Reg V12 E type 2+2 in "Heather" sold for £63K

This brings me back to my original question regarding the glass in my 1973 (Also Registered August 73) M Reg. - The video allowed me to see that the Heather V12 had Sicursiv Tempered Glass (Non Tint) for the door windows but the quarter light was XXX Triplex also non tint.

On my car both the Door windows and the quarter lights were in Sicursiv CLIMMA (tinted) glass. I can only assume as they were both registered in August 1973 (M Reg) that they were built around the same time. The only difference being that my glass is tinted (Climma - Sundym).

Having spoken to an employee of Jaguar Coventry at the time when these cars were built I was told that towards the end of the E Type run items were purchased ad-hoc to complete the final run.

Having always thought that the E types were fitted with Triplex glass I was concerned that my door glass and quarter lights were a replacement but was more interested to know if the car had been vandalised before I got it which was purchased when 4 years old.

Having seen the video of the Heather E type I think my glass is original factory and am assuming that they used the Sicusiv/Triplex because on that one as they only had non tinted triplex quarter lights in stock whereas in my case they used Sicursiv as they had both tinted in stock. As this was the end of the run - 250 approx after mine and with the Petrol crisis at the time I doubt there were many orders from dealers with specific requirements for extras such as Sundym but they used what they had in stock or was available.

Just aside we all know the Jaguar build quality in 1973 wasn't great but this shows up as my passenger door glass is again Sicursiv Climma but is wrong handed (ie) the logo is on the outside of the glass so whoever fitted the passenger door glass at Coventry (probably a Monday build) was distracted. The car also came to me with a Royal Doulton Vinyl laminated windscreen which I thought was definitely a replacement but not so sure now.

That Royal Dolton did eventually delaminate so after my recent full restoration it now has a Pilkington XXX Triplex Sundym windscreen.

Hi Colin,
I came up with a small list for that period. Also noted that both Sicursiv and Triplex were in use on XJ6 of the same period. The dates are the build dates.

I also came across a 73 OTS recently which had one Sicursiv and one Triplex window. The Triplex logo was reversed viewed from the outside.

Thanks for the reply much appreciated. Fantastic that you have this information.

My chassis is 1S51856BW build date 6/6/1973.

Just for the record the Anthony Hamilton S3 V12 2+2 is chassis 1S51754 had a build date of 20/5/1973 (DRJ 128M). I can only see the RHS of the car so assume the LHS is the same.

I attach a picture of my reverse image passenger door LHS - weird thing is I have owned the car since 1977 and never once spotted the Sicursiv glass until my painter noticed it recently. To be honest I was a little disappointed because I thought that the car had a hidden history as I wanted it to be near as factory as possible when it was restored but thankfully it all looks original.

(I wonder if some of the concours boys have had any issues with the judges awarding black marks for non Triplex glass) hopefully put the record straight

I had searched the internet and forums but could not find any reference to Jaguar using Sicursiv glass on the S3 E Types - its something I wasn't aware of but thankfully has now put that to bed.
