#1 Sill Panels

Post by AussieEtype » Sun May 29, 2011 12:50 pm

Hi all,

I have a home made 5 speed conversion which works OK but to get historic registration (meaning real cheap) in my State the vehicle needs to be basically authentic so I will have to take this mod out.

As a result the engine and gearbox will come out and as I want check the rear end I will drop the diff etc - in 40 years it has never been touched.

With those bits out I want to mount the tub via the jacking points on a trolley and do some body work.

So - my question is - with the all the heavy gear moved can I remove one outer sill panel (to replace the inner braces) without bracing the tub up. Only one outer sill panel will be off at a time.

Thanks

For your OTS I would, but for a 2+2 you might get away with it. You could perhaps look for some convenient holes in front of and behind the door, then bolt a brace into position rather than the usual strut tacked across the aperture between A and B pillars? totally rigid is better though. Presumably you're going to need paint on that side anyway so a bit more won't hurt on the A pillar where it's hidden by trim and the door shut at the B pillar where it can be hidden by trim depending which spot you pick?

Thanks

I was hoping bracing would not have been necessary for a single out sill panel.

Guess it is off to the metal man to get some bracing material.

Cheers
