My car has developed a cyclic knocking on that comes and goes from the front end. I'm not sure if it's coming from a wheel bearing or the transmission.

It happens when under load or when rolling neutral and seems to be getting worse. it goes away under braking.

Any ideas what it might be?

I'm a few hundred mile s from help so I need to decide whether I can drive it or not.
