I'm sure i read an article a couple of years ago about a s3 e type which
had an electrically operated hood. Does anyone know if it has been done or even can it be done?

Never heard of one being offered commercially. Suggest you give CMC a call because if anyone has done it, it will be them.

without undoing the snappers, place a cloth over the
rear window and making sure it doesnt crease when it
goes down.........or is it just Me

I have to say raising the roof can be an anaerobic exercise given its weight. As you get older it can become a barrier to using the car which is a shame so all strength ( no pun intended!) to those who look for solutions that allow them to continue using their cars - better seats, better interior cooling, power steering and, for those that need it, power hoods.
