#1 Series III Timing Chains [Cam Chains]

If anyone with a Series III has had a timing chain that needed replacing I would be interested to know what your first indications were that the timing chain needed replacing.
I have a slight rattle noise from the front right hand side of the motor, it does get louder after a hard run on a hot day however when you stop the engine and rest it for about 5 minutes when you start up again the noise has gone yet on another day a slight rattle was there after the motor had been off for a couple of hours.
The motor is running perfect, no overheating etc. Is there any way of checking that the Timing Chain is too loose?
