Hello.
I was wondering what the guide prices on Series III E-Types are these days? They seem to range massively in asking price in the classifieds, and it's not completely clear why...
I'm thinking in terms of the following categories:
- In need of restoration
- Running, but poor condition
- Running, in good condition
- Running, in great condition
- Concourse
Also, it seems that the E-Type has enjoyed a bit of a bubble with the 50th Anniversary, but that this hasn't affected the Series III as much. Do you expect prices will fall over the next few years?

I'll get back to you when I can remember where I've put the info. I saw it somewhere earlier and IIRC it was with next week's winning lottery numbers and the 2014 Grand National result.

Sorry, I didn't mean that to come across as a question for Mystic Meg! I was just wondering what people's opinions were - primarily on guide prices and why they seem to vary so much, but also if anyone had a view on how much the Series 3 has been affected by the anniversary. I'm sorry if it came across otherwise!

Don't worry, Pete is just having a bit of fun

because it is very difficult to put a price on a car as that price is so dependant on its quality and state. You can start by figuring the cost to restore a basket case E-Type to concours condition will be about ?130,000+, half that if you can do the majority of the work yourself. Our advice is always to buy the best car you can afford and get someone to check it over before parting with your money. Can't help much with V12 values myself as I am only really interested in the S1 and S2 cars - maybe someone else can offer a view?

If you use this little app, select 'E-Type' and 'Cars for Sale' then filter on 'V12' it will give you a good idea of the price spread of cars for sale: http://www.jaguarauctionwatch.com/

I also found the following in Classic Cars. Can't remember the exact headings, but they suggested the following, from dealer/concourse to restoration job, with a couple in between:
Roadster: ?55,000; ?42,000; ?25,000; ?12,500
FHC: ?42,500; ?29,000; ?17,500; ?9,500

The figures given above for an S3 don't look too wide of the mark to me, but as so often, the devil is in the detail and makes you wonder whether these journalists just make it up : there is no such thing as an S3 FHC

Unfortunately the body style is referred to as a "2+2 Fixed Head Coupe" in all the Jaguar sales brochures..... I guess as there was one fixed roof model they decided to call it as such.

Not sure who comes up with these prices, just looked on that link mentioned above and the prices range from ?24,500 up to ?94,850.

I've yet to see a concours roadster at ?55,000
