#1 Brake Vacuum Pipe Clip - Picture Please

Post by andrewk » Tue Jun 18, 2013 9:41 pm

Hi,

I'm hoping someone on the forum can post/email a picture of the clips used on RH cars to secure the brake vacuum pipes to the bulkhead.

The clip in question is part No. C35604 on Pg 26.45 of the OTS parts manual.

My clips are missing, none of the vendors stock them, nor can I find a picture on any of the reference books I own to show what they look like.

I would greatly appreciate a picture so I can use as a reference to try and fabricate a pair.

Otherwise, if anyone out there has some, or knows a source. please get in touch. As we all know, sometimes it's the little things that make the car seem just right.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
These clip are plastic and at this age most have broken. I may still have one as I went for matched steel clipsfor strength and symetry. Currently out of action with a head cold, I will have a look when I am well!
For a picture you can just see one on page 46 of Richard T Russ excellent guide to Series 3 originality which also shows the clips as plastic in later pages.
If you want an original Series 3 Richards book, or the electronic version of it, from XKE Data.
Regards,
Simon.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply and I'm sorry to read about your head cold. By the way, I'm the Andrew who you came to see some while back, we swapped your gearbox for the matrix? I received your last email over a year ago, however my PC fried before I could reply and it took your email address with it - I sent you a note here via. this forum, did you ever get it? It would be good to be back in touch.

Back to the clip, this isn't the clip I'm referring to Simon. I have these ones which are used to hold the vacuum pipe above the heater box (engine manifold to brake check valve).

It's the clip for the longer pipes which run via rubber hoses from the brake servo to the master cylinder I'm after. Also, I understand they're fabricated from steel and are only used on RH cars.

I also have Russ's book, however there's no pictures of these clips !

If you still have my email, send me a catch up mail when you're better and I'll fill you in on all the gaps at my end.

Regards,

Andrew

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply regarding contacting Richard Smith - I haven't checked with Richard, however I last spoke with him around a year ago looking for different parts and he told me he hardly has any stock of Series 3 parts anymore as he mainly concentrates on the 6 cylinder cars.

I didn't want to bother him just for the clips... I need the pipes too which are available from Robey's and the rest of the usuals, however no securing clips !!

If I were to get a picture of what they look like and dimensions, I'm sure I could make a credible looking set.

Regards,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Good to hear from you and I will send a catch up email very soon. However, I saw your post and recognise that I didn?t read it fully ? missing the part no. you went to much trouble to provide! Serves me right for browsing with a heavy cold and headache ? now I am feeling better I have been out to the garage and, success! I do have one of these clips, which never got refitted, but was in my box of bits to send for plating (one day) and also copying. I used home-made stainless steel clips, made before I ever found this one at the bottom of a box of parts from the previous owner, they will do until such time as I can make more accurate versions using this as a pattern.
The clip is 25mm wide and the flat portion is 16mm from the edge to the bottom of the curve. The whole thing is 39mm when stood upright and would stand 11mm proud of the bulkhead when fitted. Hope this helps.

Regards,
