Hi
I ve bought a getrag coming from a BMW. It comes out from a 635i and has a low milleage. It means that it is a short gearbox.
I ll have to support it elsewhere than using the stock parts with the plare and the spring.
Do someone has already done a drawing of a cross member?
I m looking for one using the 2 silent blocs fitted on the getrag ?
Thanks for any feedback.
Cheers
Michel

Do a mock-up in alloy strip or maybe thin steel. It's a wide H-shaped cross piece in 6mm steel or thereabouts, which curves under the box and holds the bottom of the rubber bobbins. At each end the cross piece has a short fore-aft extension to follow the tunnel side and bolted to the floor with two bolts. You may need to cut a u-shaped section out of the body cross member to clear thr back of the box. Then there's the adapter needed to fit the Jag bell, the output flange or sliding yoke to fit the propshaft and the gear linkage to bring the gear lever out in the right place once you trim the back of the gearbox casing. The tabs on the gearbox will probably need to be trimmed slightly to give clearance in the tunnel.
All told, not the easiest conversion or the nicest gearbox but it can be one of the cheapest ways to put a 5-speed in a SWB E-type.

Forgot to mention the speedo drive problem, depending which version of the Getrag you use.
