I am trying to work out the correct fixing locations for the V12 Earth strap to be fixed, can anyone confirm?
Thank you,
Kevin

Dear Kevin,
The best location for starting will be from a starter motor bolt back to the negative side of the battery. The best location for ordinary running will be from an alternator bolt back to the battery.
There is a bolt on the firewall which connects to the battery and you can connect from there to the engine block if you so wish.
kind regards

Hi Marek
Many thanks, I will get one from the block to the battery earth to body bolt. The strap supplied by SNG is only 20cm long. The routes you mention look substantially longer.
Does battery/ earth strap need to be braided? Will a heavy gauge PVC covered copper be suitable?
On a separate note, do you know of a suitable electronic indicator flasher unit suitable for the S3?
Kind regards,
Kevin

Good advise from Marek. A good earth or two will add to the reliability and
performance at all times.
I can vouch for that...........

There is nothing special or mysterious about braid - it simply has a lot of surface area. When the starter motor operates, the electricity is going from the battery along thick copper stranded cable to the terminal post and then along another thick copper stranded cable to the starter motor. It can happily return using a similar type of cable to the battery negative post.

Dear Kevin
English is not my mother tongue, and I will do my best to make myself understood with help of my limited knowledge of English. I have a 1971 UK car, automatic. 50432BW.
The 20 cm earth strap goes from one of the bolts connecting the gearbox to the engine to one of the bolts holding the LH side frame to the body. On the engine, the bolt is the one on the left side positioned as ?eight o?clock?. (There are no bolts further down, lower, than this). The bolt on the frame fixing point is the rear one of the two that goes across there the frame tube goes into the tubular beam in the floor pan.

Did the earth strap improve things?
