Morning, can anyone please advise me how the VIN number should appear on the V5 document. I am trying to register my newly imported car which was in the UK originally and DVLA cant find it, Heritage say it was distributed in Oxford late 72 early 73, Dutch docs say it was first reistered 73 and arrived there 1980. All the numbers stack up with heritage. Please dont share your full VIN number but can anyone tell me what appears on your reg doc prior to the 5 digit number at the end? Then I can tell DVLA what to look for.
Thanks a lot
Kevin

Have a look here: http://www.xkedata.com/cars/results/?&page=182 but the simple answer is 1SXXXXX with the suffix BW if it is an auto.

Kevin : you should also note that there is in fact NO vin number originally allocated for any E type , and this may be confusing the DVLA . E types pre-date the introduction of vin numbers by several years . All there is , is a chassis number which will be in the sequence which David has indicated

To be even more correct Christopher the E-Type does not have a 'chassis number' as it is a monocoque construction. It has a 'car number' and other data as witnessed by the Jaguar commission plate:

Interestingly a few early cars used the commission plate from the XK150 and did, erroneously, have a chassis number but Jaguar quickly spotted the problem and got E. Rudd & Co to produce a revised version with 'car number' and new recommended lubricants.

Thank you all. Much appreciated. My car apparently was originally distributed from Oxford, London Rd Headington but from there the trail goes cold till 1980 in NL. Not sure why DVLA wouldnt have the data from 1973 unless the car went else where from new, It is original RHD though. I'd love to find out more about it. I may try Dutch enthusiast clubs.
