rear number plate

Hi
I'm new to this site
I recently bought a 1969 series 2 fhc in Holland
I'm fitting new plates with its UK reg but the reversing lights obscure the first and last digits of the oblong plate.
I can't fit a square plate as it would foul on the tailpipes which aren't splayed.
I'm thinking of removing the reversing lights.
Is this legal?
Any other thoughts?

Tom, welcome..Are you a dermatologist?

Congrats on the new car. Dutch numberplates are about the same size/shape as UK so how did it work with the Dutch reg?

BTW I just read this same question on the S2 list but the forum would fill up PDQ if everyone posted identical queries on more than one list (hint, hint).

Hi, I read recently that Lotus Europa S4 have same Lucas rear lights but reversing lights are integrated in lens/light body.

The Elan S4 lights will fit and do indeed have the integrated reverse light but you need to complete assembly which, IIRC, is about ?300/side. Marek has taken a more pragmatic approach and integrated LED reverse lights into the lens he manufactures thus allowing you to retain the existing enclosures.
