#1 Series 3 timing…..

Post by Ikebaddog » Sat Dec 21, 2024 12:04 pm

This has probably been discussed before, but forgive my impatience…any idea how I can time the ignition on my ‘71 v12 without timing marks!!!!!!!!
Regards
John

I think I'll just give advance until it starts to sound wrong, then back it off 10 degrees....not sure how much 10 degrees is, but hey ho

No, back off 1 deg, or until it sounds right.

It really is worth your while to understand how to set your engine to TDC, and thence mark it so that you can accurately set timing.

Trying to do it by ear is unlikely to work, and you have no objective reference frame to help you fix it when it doesn't. Even if what you do seems to work, you still don't actually know if it's right.

Do it properly, do it once.
