#1 Sound Proofing

Post by IFC123 » Tue Sep 06, 2016 9:52 pm

I am trying to determine what the substance is between the floor panel and the hardura mats, I am assuming it is some sort of sound proofing material.
Although the floor panel seems sound from underneath, when I lifted the hardura I found rust along the edges of this substance and would like to remove it to investigate further.

Can someone please advise the easiest way to remove and then replace it.

Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian.

The easiest way I removed that Bitumen or ? sheeting was with a heat gun, I found when I had it soft enough I could get under it with spatula. I had the advantage with rust as well so it made it even easier, as it was flaking off the floor.

Funny, I have just finished fitting Resomat, an Australian product, similar to Dynamat. Took a full day to do that.
Good Luck on removal

Ian,

If you can wait until the colder weather. Anywhere near or below 0 C the bitumen comes off in flakes if you use a 1" wood chisel held at an angle and moderate taps with a mallet.
