#1 Air con not working

Post by Dave Maddock » Sat May 07, 2016 7:19 pm

HI, me again. Series 3 OTS

Not had the car long and am trying to de-bug. The air con isn't working, I turn the right hand knob, nothing. No fans run, compressor doesn't seem to be kicking in.

Any ideas most welcome.

Thanks

Hi Dave,
It may just need a re-gas.

Hi Steve
I will try this, but could I be that lucky? The fans don't blow, nothing happens at all. When my daily driver (bmw) needed gas it a least was blowing air but warm.

Don't know with the etype, would lack of gas means the fans would be cut out?

Thanks for getting back.

Many AC systems prevrnt compressor damage by isolating it if the refrigerant/oil mixture is low or lost. Hkse er, if you are converting to RHD you'llp have to lose the AC anyhow

Hi Dave,
As Pete has eluded to, the AC system has a fail safe to protect compressor etc. The fan may also be part of this too.

Some modern cars have independent fans for both AC and engine cooling.
I had a modern Audi a few years ago and the AC always blew hot air and the separate AC fan never ran until I found a loose earth cable, (from AC relay), never fitted at factory. The fan then worked once refitted and AC was on and gas was confirmed and charged.

Thanks Steve
I am coming round to the fact that a pool of green liquid and ac not working are linked....

Many thanks
