Coming time to respray my series 3 but the question is how far up the sills do I take the stone chip paint and what profile does it follow on the boot pan. Clear on wheel arches.
Thanks Nigel

I'd leave it off the sills, it will look wrong. On the LWB car (mine included) the floor wraps around to reach up to the sills. I'd cover these with stonechip up to the lowest reach of the sill but not further.

I agree, but extending a smoothish layer of stone chip under body colour a couple of inches up the sill from the floor looks OK on LWB cars. You had to get pretty low and close to see it on my S3 and the extra cover for the welded sill seam is nice on a regular-use car.

Thanks chaps. What about the boot area I guess just the floor and not the contoured upturns which lead on the rear wings ?

My 71 series 3 does not have stonechip paint on any of the out body panels - the entire floor pan underneath is covers as are the inner wheel wells but nothing on the sills or under the boot area.
Do later series 3 have it under the boot and on the sills?

I think not, but mine had been worked on some years earlier by Southern Classics. Perhaps they used some of Rex Harrison's two-pack stage make up, to fill the blemishes?
