Steering wheel question

My S1 OTS is registered in Germany. Last Friday I took it to the TÜV (the German equivalent to what I think is the MOT in the UK). They took issue wit the steering wheel. They said that only wheels that have a letter combination engraved are permissible. Others could be cheap and unsafe aftermarket wheels that break. My garage here in Brussels said my wheel is a normal wheel and that they were not aware that there were wheels with engravings to evidence conformity with any safety or quality standards.

Any thoughts on this?

Of course, if you crash the wheel will not kill you, because the steering column will spear you through the heart first.

There is absolutely no way to make a car designed in 1960 safe by today's standards. Of course, trying to explain that to the idiot who took exception to your steering wheel is also impossible.

Yes, try another testing station. Alternatively Google the TUV requirements document and read up what is says. Tell them here is no other steering wheel that will fit without compromising steering integrity.

True but you can't buy them. If you could I'd fit them to all of my S1 cars in a heartbeat.
