Dear All,
I have given up on fixing the Charging in August myself, as I cant solve it & the car has a 1 Year Full warranty. Could someone guess how many hours of driving +/- you get out of a Full charged New Battery without Radio or Lights etc. The Battery is just at 12.5 so no in put from the Alternator or regulator etc.

About 1 1/2 hours if you are lucky. But if it starts to rain and you need lights & wipers it could be a lot less.

Dear All,

I finally dismantled the Dash cover to get to the Fuse Box & cabling
& removed the plastic indication panel as the ashtray seemed stuck. Finally I Found a red wire lose from ignition that goes to the Alternator & Relay & Regulator etc. Finaly I was checking the wrong Relay as it was for the horn & had changed the cabling for nothing. Now I have finally the 14Volts on the battery when running after a couple of minutes. Not easy for a beginer but just have to keep at it. Now at least I can drive to the Sea & back without worrying about the battery.

Paul

Well done! You seem to have solved your problem so enjoy the rest of the season. We are just planning our next round France trip at the moment and looking forward to it.

Thks for the precious advice, I need to see how to do as now I am worried. Can you confirm the diameter of your pipe as maybe they are smaller than mine. I think the French Camembert mechanic fitted a much wider one & discared the origional. May I ask why Cmc & not E Type UK for servicing.

Paul,

Like David I was advised not to vent the engine into the plenum by Rob Beere racing so I went to my local Jag scrap yard and found an engine breather from a much later XJ6. It is black so it takes a little scour with some Scotch Brite or similar to get the black off and then a good polish.

Remove the existing pipe from the breather using some slight heat and a vice and then I had a reducer made from some stainless steel.

One end fits into the XJ breather and the other side needs to be made a sliding fit for the corrugated foil tube available at most of the usuals.
Use some silicon sealer on the reducer and a jubilee clip. Make sure you run the vent pipe right under the car or the fumes may come into the cockpit.

All you need do then is make a blank for the plenum.

This looks right on my car because its a very early flat floor with an XK150S engine but who cares its your car do what you think is best.

Dear All,
Simple suestion, I am still not charging. I changed the brushes on the Alternator & KOSS connectors. Previous owner had glued them a real mess. As was getting late forgot to check output of Alternator. I just wanted to know if quite a few sparkes in the Alternator is normal, first time to see it run in the dark ? What amazed me also was the exhaust gets red so quick, something you dont see in daylight. I been trying to get
it right myself but not simple.

I do not think that a great deal of sparking is normal . You might just see a very small degree of it , but large amounts of sparking suggest a significant problem . There are many reasons why you may have no charge . Two which can be checked readily are that the ALT terminal is connected to a wire, and that the alternator relay ( Lucas 6RA) , usually on the LH top rail of the engine frames , is connected and working. These relays, being close to the exhaust, are exposed to a great deal of heat and can fail

You may find this article helps you to understand and troubleshoot the system

Dear Christopher,
thks for the mail, i have been struggling for a while. I spoke to a Alternator specialist at Mitsubishi where I work and he said sparks can happen on new brushes until getting the proper shape. For the rest they will try and help me Friday. I noticed that the heat guard is made from that lethal material surely it must be changed.
