I'm afraid the heritage certificate will not give you the information about numbers . It will only confirm that information about numbers which you give to them . This is to prevent people obtaining the details and cloning cars which , sadly , has happened several times

That's not good news! I am in the process of applying for a JDHT certificate and had assumed that they would provide any missing numbers.
Unfortunately my indentification plate hasn't stood the test of time so I'm able to read all but the full Body Number:

Is there another method of finding out the body number? I haven't seen any hand written numbers as previously mentioned so don't know what is the first character after the 4R.
Thanks,
Chris

Send an application to JDHT along with that picture explaining the missing digit. No doubt they will fill in the blank. Otherwise it is a case of trawling XKEdata to find a close car and making an educated guess. Have you removed the rear number plate to see if the body number tag is still there?

Chris : I don't think you will have a problem getting the number with that data plate . The difficulty is when you just send a chassis number and have none of the other numbers . I should send that pic with your form

Hi,
The body number may be found behind the rear number plate........

Or hand written on some panels, e.g. rear hatch....

Nick.

Thanks all. I emailed the photo of the indentification plate to Julie at JDHT. She was very helpful and said there wouldn't be a problem in providing the full body number.
Although I've not managed to find the tag under the rear number plate and not even two holes where any rivets would have been. Was this tag positioned under the number plate on all the models?

When you mention rear number plate are you refering to the license plate in the back? Would that be underneet the stainless stell plate that runs from one rear light to the other?
The picture of that red tag is positionned where on the car? could you add a picture of the larger area?
Thank You
Francis

I just filled in the online registration form from the Heritage Trust but it's of no use...You need to fill in the printed form, send along with it, proof of existance of the car plus proof or registration of the car to your name...
and of coarse payment...

Francis,
Would you be able to post a picture of the wider area where the body number tag is behind the number plate.
Thanks,
Chris

Here are some more pictures of the back of the car, (yes it's an ugly two tone Maaco type paint job, but I will remedy this!)
It's underneth the chrome plate in the cack under the bumper line on the right side.

I have this habbit of giving names to my cars. For instance my daily driver is a Jaguar X-tyoe wagon and she is called Cindy. My wife's Range Rover is called Parker, My Lagonda is called Alvira, my Aston Martin DB7 is called Debby Sept (seven in French), my Morgan is called Shari and all those names came on their own fairly quickly after I got the cars.
I am struggling with my series 2 E-Type. No name as yet pupped up. Can any of you throw some suggestions in? Something cat related maybe?

Sorry, can't help. A machine is a machine to me. Might be simpler to self-medicate with a drop of single malt whenever you feel a fresh wave of Anthropomorphitis Nervosa sweeping over you? :?Francis wrote:I have this habbit of giving names to my cars. Should I take that drop of single malt intra-vinusly?
Along with my valium and prozac?
Ok I got it, I will call her Prozac the sleepy cat! LOL!
Maybe delirium tremens, my dream of a cat?
By the way what would be the best color to paint her?
She just got out of sand blast and I keep on changing the choice of color to paint her with...

Nope, sorry - can't help you with that either.Francis wrote: By the way what would be the best color to paint her?

Je suis d?sol? Francis. Je crois que personne d'autre peut vous aider avec cette question, moi non plus. You'll have to be a big grown-up boy and decide your own favourite colour
Besides, you wouldn't want any shade I'd recommend - I am red-green colour blind. I even thought my first Greensand E-type looked OK and I wore purple loon pants as a teenage hippy. Angus and David will confirm how badly I still dress...

On the topic of numbers, I see that yours is 21 cars later than mine (1R1400) but the original engine for mine is the one after yours (7R8076-9). However, my body number is 4R5453 which means that whatever the missing digit is the two bodies are at least almost 500 apart.
Strange.
