#1 1964 UK RHD S1 3.8 OTS BRAKES

Post by abouttownman » Sat Aug 17, 2019 10:54 am

HI ALL,

I AM IN THE PROCESS OF RESTORING MY RHD UK MARKET 1964 S1 OTS 3.8 AND DISCOVERED THE CAR HAD AN UNUSUAL BRAKE SET UP, UTILIZING A LATER TYPE SERVO AND JUST ONE MASTER CYLINDER FEEDING ALL FOUR WHEELS. IT HAD JUST TWO RESERVOIRS, ON THE ONE FOR BRAKES AND ONE FOR CLUTCH SITUATED ON THE RIGHT HAND BULKHEAD.

I HAVE MANAGED TO GET HOLD OF AN ORIGINAL PEDAL BOX WITH A DUNLOP BELLOW TYPE SERVO WHICH I BELIEVE IS CORRECT FOR THE 3.8 MODELS? PLEASE ADVISE IF NOT.
IF CORRECT, I INTEND TO INSTALL THIS IN THE CAR WITH THE TRICO TYPE VACUUM TANK.

MY QUESTIONS ARE,CAN ANYONE ADVISE HOW THE COPPER BRAKE LINES ARE CORRECTLY ROUTED (A DIAGRAM OR IMAGE WOULD BE PERFECT),FROM THE NOW, TWO BRAKE CYLINDERS TO THE FOUR ROAD WHEELS? ALSO HOW IS THE PIPING ROUTED FROM VACUUM UNIT? THE BELLOW TYPE SERVO HAS A PIPE AT ITS REAR WHICH WHEN FITTED WOULD GO TOWARDS THE BULKHEAD,DOES THIS CONNECT TO ANYTHING?

ANY INFORMATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

MIKE

Look on XKE Data at images of cars with close build numbers to your car. Another source is SNG parts book, I think there are images of pipes covering the 3.8

If your don't already have any get yourself a copy of the Jaguar service and parts manuals. They are usually invaluable for this kind of thing. However, I scanned mine from cover to cover and never found any illustrations of pipe routes. I've never really noticed any photographs showing the pipe runs either although there might be some in the knowledge base.

The pipe you refer to passes through the bulkhead and is fitted with a filter on the bulkhead side. When I bought the filter for mine from one of the larger parts suppliers all I got for £7 was a short length of pipe insulation cut at an angle. A complete rip off!

Stuart
